About Zahra
I am an ECFMG-certified medical graduate who finds genuine joy in teaching and sharing knowledge.
Coming from a family of educators spanning two generations, I have inherited their passion for teaching, their patience, and perhaps a few of their best techniques along the way. I began tutoring and mentoring in high school, starting with teaching science to middle school students and underserved populations, and later taught formally as a science and biology teacher to high school students.
During medical school, I served as an International Trainer with IFMSA (A global network of 1.3M medical students advancing healthcare through exchange, advocacy, and capacity-building), where I trained over 450 medical student leaders across South Asia to improve healthcare outcomes and advocate for better medical systems. I was honored to be voted Top Trainer by more than 70% of my trainees. I also developed a mentorship program at my medical school to help first-year students transition smoothly into the academic and emotional challenges of medicine.
In addition, I worked with MedAngle, an AI-powered online question bank for medical students, where I authored and peer-reviewed over 300 clinical and basic science questions. My academic record reflects consistent excellence— 10 A and A* grades in O Levels, 4 As in A Levels (including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics), and multiple distinctions during medical school. Having successfully passed USMLE Step 1 and Step 2, I am now an ECFMG-certified physician, licensed to practice in the United States.
I approach teaching with the same rigor and enthusiasm that defined my educational career. My lessons are interactive, structured, and tailored to each student’s learning style. I focus on deep conceptual understanding through real world examples, clinical integration, active recall, and spaced repetition—helping students not just memorize but truly understand scientific and medical concepts. Above all, I strive to create a warm, professional, and encouraging environment where curiosity thrives and confidence grows with every lesson.

My lessons focus on building deep conceptual understanding through clinical integration, diagrams, interactive discussions, practical case studies and experiments. My teaching style emphasizes integrating active recall and spaced repetition, which are scientifically proven robust learning techniques. I emphasize core principles frequently tested in question banks and exams, teaching students to reason through mechanisms, apply knowledge analytically and systematically, and retain information effectively for long-term mastery.
Teaching Methodology
My approach centers on conceptual clarity and clinical relevance. I begin each topic by breaking complex biological processes into logical frameworks that make sense rather than relying on rote memorization. I integrate clinical examples, videos, flowcharts, and visual mapping to help students understand theory from the ground up e.g. how molecular mechanisms translate to physiological and pathological outcomes.
For advanced learners, I emphasize mechanistic reasoning, evidence-based discussion, and exam-oriented synthesis.
Typical Lesson Structure
* Brief diagnostic discussion – assess baseline understanding and identify weak areas.
* Concept building – explanation of key principles, supported by diagrams and analogies drawn from real clinical cases.
* Active learning – Socratic questioning, step-by-step problem solving, and mini-quizzes. Often times, each sessions starts with a rapid review of successive topics to ensure long term recall of previously taught topics.
*Application and integration – linking subtopics (e.g., pharmacologic mechanisms to underlying physiology, chemical structures of molecules to formation of proteins, pressure gradients and the cardiac cycle).
*Summary and spaced review plan – reinforce key takeaways and assign targeted practice o recall questions spaced at regular intervals to ensure long term retention.
What Sets Me Apart
* Strong grasp on concepts with experience of teaching various students of various ages and baseline understanding.
*A doctor’s perspective that connects theory to real world scenarios.
*Structured, evidence-based teaching methods, tailoring lessons to represent your goals and aligned with you current curricula.
*Adaptive pacing: I adjust depth and style to suit each student—whether preparing for high-school exams, undergraduate finals, or medical licensing boards.
*Emphasis on understanding the “why” behind each concept, ensuring long-term retention and analytical confidence.
Who My Lessons Are For:
* High-school students (Grades 10–12, AP/IB Biology) seeking foundational mastery.
*Pre-medical and medical students preparing for rigorous exams or consolidating complex systems.
My goal is to help students not only excel academically but also develop genuine curiosity and confidence in biomedical sciences.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor
I reached out to Zahra when my cousin was struggling with science and had started losing confidence in the subject. From our very first conversation, I could tell she approached teaching with a rare blend of professionalism, empathy, and enthusiasm. She took the time to understand exactly where my cousin was facing difficulties and designed a structured plan tailored to her learning style and goals.
Zahra’s teaching goes far beyond rote learning—she focuses on deep conceptual understanding, using clear explanations, diagrams, and experiments to make complex topics easy to grasp. Within just a few weeks, I noticed a remarkable improvement not only in my cousin’s grades but also in her attitude toward studying. Zahra’s use of active recall and spaced repetition helped her retain information long-term, and her ability to connect scientific concepts to everyday logic made learning genuinely enjoyable.
What impressed me most was Zahra’s commitment. She is patient, organized, and genuinely invested in her students’ growth. Her background as a medical doctor, formal educator, and international trainer shows through in every lesson.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Zahra to anyone seeking a tutor who combines academic excellence with genuine care for her students. She truly makes learning engaging, effective, and confidence-building.View more recommendations
