About Isaac

I live and breathe music, and am passionate about passing on what I've learnt on my journey so far. There's no special power required to achieve your goals, just passion, dedication and hard work. As a music producer, I currently have songs featured in Spotify Editorial playlists and BBC Radio 6. As a musician, I have experience touring in bands around Europe, and am currently working on a new live show with my latest project, Owanj. Please check out the track below which I produced and mixed.

Teaching methodology and techniques How do I make this track sound bigger? How do I make that sound? How do I produce and mix to an industry standard? These are just some of the questions that preoccupy us when starting out. I've been there... My job is to help you answer them. I base my lessons on the creative and technical needs of each student, which I discuss and map-out with them in the first free session. I then strongly encourage open experimentation as key to progression, drawing upon my own varied experience as a touring artist and producer to help guide each student towards an approach to music production that works for them. I centre my lessons on practical assignments, with the overarching goal being to finish and start sharing high-quality music. All ages and abilities welcome!

Find out more about Isaac

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I developed a passion for music aged 6, when I took my first guitar lesson. Later on, I learned the Trombone, achieving a Grade 8 Distinction aged 16 and touring the UK and Europe in a band. It was whilst studying at university that I found music production, or rather it found me, and I haven't looked back since!
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Im all-ears for different types of music - if it's got soul, it's good! However, one thing that will never drive me crazy on a loop is the raga of Indian classical music. The mastery and ease of the players gets me every time.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

The most riveting course that I give my students involves a collaborative approach whereby we work on a track together. This allows us to work through all of the core topics that they want to learn - including sound design, production, mixing and mastering - from start to finish. Ultimately, it helps them to develop an independent workflow that is alive, engaging, and rich in new techniques that they can carry forward.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

This is a very difficult question to answer, but I'll throw my hat in the ring and say the violin. Because the instrument is so small, lacks frets, and sounds horrible for a considerable amount of time at the start, it requires a different kind of resilience to master it.
  • What are your keys to success?

Focus most on enjoying the process of learning and creating. This will mean that you are naturally more engaged, less worried about outcomes, and therefore able to learn more quickly, surprising yourself along the way with ideas that you hadn't conceived of before.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

My three would probably have to be David Bowie, Miles Davis, and Aphex Twin. I think their conversation would be a creative masterpiece in itself, and I would love to be there for it.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

"I used to be so fixated on 'getting to that point', that I stopped enjoying the process and even listening to music. I then decided to approach it as an exploration, rather than a means to an end, and have thrived ever since"
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I take a highly personalised approach that places my students at the centre of a detailed planning process. Their specific needs are always met, and my above-average number of long-term students is a testament to this. I also love to find personalised metaphors for students in order to help explain different concepts. These are usually unplanned, and occur in moments of teaching once I've gotten to know what makes my students tick
