About Maria
I am a second-year classical clarinet student studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where I also studied at the Junior Conservatoire – graduating in 2024. I have been studying clarinet for the last 10 years, as well as piano for six. I hold an A grade in my Scottish Advanced Higher music as well as several performance and theory ABRSM exams with Distinction. Alongside my performance studies, I also have a strong interest in music theory, music history, and composition. I am particularly passionate about helping students apply their theory skills to a practical setting, helping them to understand the relevance of theoretical understanding in performance. I love working with people and have experience delivering community music projects with both young people and the elderly, including facilitating workshops. My performance experience spans choral music, musical theatre, chamber ensembles, orchestral playing, and solo work. While my career focus is on performance, I am equally inspired by teaching, and I am committed to sharing my passion for music with the next generation – I think both students and teachers can learn from each other!

I believe that every student should feel empowered and excited about their learning. My aim is always to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students can enjoy music as much as I do. Alongside my studies, I have gained experience through community music projects and volunteering with young people in schools. These experiences have shaped my teaching approach and have highlighted the importance of patience, and flexibility with each student. As a student myself, I am highly aware of the conflicting demands that often face young (and adult) learners, and I’m committed to teaching at a pace that feels comfortable for you! I’m looking to teach beginner to intermediate music theory lessons in which I’d aim to cover the fundamentals of pitch, rhythm and harmony that create a strong basis for further development. I’m familiar with the ABRSM syllabus and I’m happy to help students work towards their theory exams or simply explore their own interests – lessons can be tailored to any areas you’d like to focus on. I’d also love to help students apply their theory knowledge to their practical work as a musician through teaching basic score analysis and active listening techniques.
