About Kira Phoenix

I was born in Asia and lived their till I was 13. I started boarding school in the UK when I was 10 due to needing additional support for my dyslexia. I went on to study at Central St Martins and graduated in 2010. In 2015 I graduated from The Royal College of Art in Glass and Ceramics, with a distinction for my thesis. I continue to work as an artist and run my own studio in Wimbledon, London.

I have always loved to help and support those around me and it bring me great joy to be able to bring that same energy to all my students, and their studies. As a tutor I have always enjoyed working with students over a longer period so we can build a strong working relationship that is nurturing and confidence building.

I have been working as a Tutor and Mentor since 2009. During this time, I have had the pleasure to work with students from various backgrounds, ages and needs. My approach to tutoring and mentoring any student is a holistic one. Each student learns in their own way and I work with the student to discover which method os the best for them.

I offer one-to-one tutoring and home-schooling programmes. With my tutoring background in the art, English, maths, science, and some of the humanities, I would also be able to help support a variety of educational needs this student may have. I am also able to support SEN and EAL students. Being dyslexic myself I can understand and provide the additional support that a student who is SEN will need, for example creating a visually exciting programme of study, to allocating time for breaks or talking through any issues that have arisen with their studies and working with them to find a healthy educational solution. Each student has surpassed their own expectations of what they could achieve, with some students going from receiving Cs and Ds to As and Bs. I really enjoy being able to help SEN and EAL students find their own way to learn and gain confidence.

Within creative subjects I have helped students develop projects, supported sketch book development, worked on creating exciting portfolios for applications, complete course work and essays, as well as get them prepped for exams. When it comes to the next stage of their education I have also taken students through interview techniques and writing applications for University.

HOLISTIC APPROACH
Within each of my classes I encourage all my student to be curious, to ask questions about the topics we are covering and to explore subjects that over lap. To help each child reach their individual potential it is also important to acknowledge and support their emotional (stress and anxiety management), physical (exercise), social (family and social life), environmental (diet and exercise), occupational (work/life balance), spiritual (breathing exercises and short meditations) and intellectual needs. When creating timetables for each student I will allocate time for independent study (this will be different for each student and will be tailored to when they are able to focus best), as well as breaks, social time with friends, exercise slots and reoccurring daily meal slots. For students who find it hard to manage their time or feel stressed when they have to keep to time slots, alarms will be set for each event.

Cancellation Policy - 72 Hours
Please note that lessons cancelled with less than 72 hours' notice are liable to be charged at the tutor's discretion. When making changes or cancellations to the agreed tutoring schedule please liaise with the tutor directly via the WhatsApp Group or WhatsApp Direct Message or Email.

The client/student needs to confirm the cancellation of session/s in writing using the WhatsApp Group or WhatsApp Direct Message or Email. The session/s must be confirmed as either ‘CWON’ (Cancelled WithOut Notice) or ‘CWN’ (Cancelled With Notice) by the tutor with a confirmation message that includes the session/s date and time from the tutor’s digital diary. Please note that any verbal cancellation of session by the client/student must be followed up with a written confirmation via WhatsApp Group or WhatsApp Direct Message or Email.

To ensure consistency of tutoring sessions a maximum of 1 session can be cancelled outside of the 72-hour cancellation period with the expectation of transferring the sessions payment to the following month.

Please note that starting on the 1 July 2025 the current 72 Hour Cancellation Policy will no longer be in effect. Once an invoice has been paid if a client/student cancels any sessions no refunds or roll over of rates will be made.

Online Sessions
If sessions are taking place over Zoom, Skype, FaceTime or WhatsApp Video the same cancellation policy applies. Please also note that if the student does not arrive within 15 minutes of the session starting and has not responded to any form of communication from the tutor, the tutor reserves the right to consider this lesson cancelled and the session will be charged at the full rate.

Pausing Sessions - Updated 24 January 2025
Should the client/student wish to pause tuition with the tutor, the client/student must inform the tutor with at least one month notice, for example if the client/student wishes to pause sessions starting 1 January 2025, the client/student must let the tutor know by 1st December 2024. The full invoice must be paid for the month prior to the pause of sessions and all sessions for the month prior to the pause must be attended. Please note that the session slot/s will not be held for the client/student whilst they are on pause. When the client/student returns they will be able to choose from the current available session slot/s. Any rate changes or policy changes will also go into effect.

Half Term/Holiday Sessions
All Half Term (Autumn, Spring and Summer) and Easter Holiday sessions are booked in advance. Should the client cancel any booked sessions during any Half Term or Easter Holiday the tutor reserves the right to charge the full hourly rate for all cancelled sessions and not roll over the cost to future sessions.

The KPKtutoring Summer Programme comes into effect on July 1 (till August 31) - this means any sessions booked and paid for during this period will not fall under the same cancellation policy as the rest of the year. Any sessions cancelled after payment is received will not be rolled over or refunded.

Please note that starting on the 1 July 2025 the current 72 Hour Cancellation Policy will no longer be in effect.

Tutor Cancelling Sessions
If the tutor needs to cancel the scheduled sessions within the 72-hour period, unless otherwise stated or agreed, there will be no charge. The tutor will roll over the session fund to the following month.

Discontinuing All Tuition - Updated 24 January 2025
Should the client/student wish to discontinue all tuition with the tutor, the client/student must inform the tutor with at least one months notice, for example if the client/student wishes to cancel sessions starting 1 January 2025, the client/student must let the tutor know by 1st December 2024. The full invoice must be paid for the month prior to the cancelling of sessions and all sessions for the month prior to the cancelling of sessions must be attended.

If the client/student stops responding to all forms of communication with the tutor and does not clearly state they would like to end all sessions, the tutor reserves the right to discontinue all tuition with the client/student immediately.

If the client/student, after informing the tutor with notice, would like to start tuition again with the tutor, the client/student will need to be re-assessed to update any changes in circumstances or changes in goals. This 30 minute assessment will be charged at the half the full rate and the client/student will need to sign a new KPKtutoring Agreement. Please note that the latest rates will apply with any new agreement.
