About Rhys
With over five years of experience and a Bachelor of Music Education focusing on voice, I have a deep passion for vocal storytelling. I specialise in Jazz Standards, Broadway solos, and Golden Age repertoire, where music and narrative come together beautifully. My lessons emphasise swing phrasing, jazz ornamentation, and lead sheet reading to help students capture the authentic style of these timeless genres. I love working with passionate adults, seasoned singers, and community theatre actors who want to deepen their connection to the music and their characters. Together, we explore character interpretation and expressive techniques that bring songs to life beyond just the notes. Every student’s voice is unique, and I tailor my teaching to highlight their strengths and artistic personality. Performing with style, emotion, and classic charm is at the heart of what I teach. I support learners who connect deeply through rhythm and movement, encouraging them to express emotion naturally and confidently. For those who rely on creative instinct, I provide tools to refine their timing and add polish to their performances. Lessons blend technical exercises with expressive practice, making rhythm both fun and practical. By breaking down complex rhythms into manageable parts, I help students build clarity and precision. This method also supports emotional release and musical intuition, allowing singers to find their unique groove. Whether working with beginners or versatile singers exploring different styles, the goal is to balance technique with feeling. Students learn to internalise beats and phrases so their voices flow effortlessly with the music. This approach strengthens not only rhythm but overall musicality and stage presence.
