About Julie
I've taught many subjects for over seven years, but I prefer teaching ESL. I've taught adult and teenage refugees and immigrants at a few non-profit organizations, and I've taught various ESL courses at high school in New York. Because of this, my students' goals have been very different; however, most have reached what they consider to be a success. For example, some of my students have gone to college after taking ESL courses, and some can now speak with more fluency among their colleagues after taking ESL courses; students have gotten what they wanted out of the classes.

Both my teaching and tutoring methods are student and interest-based. I learn about my students' goals, and I create classes and lessons based on what I learn. Further, I try to create lessons based on the students' interests. For instance, if a student needs to work on reading and enjoys the topic of music, I will find reading material about music. I believe when students are interested in the topic, they are more likely to engage with the material, and what they learn stays with them. I also ask for feedback and check for understanding, and I move through the lessons or classes at the students' pace, so everyone is comfortable.
