About Marissa
Across fifteen years of teaching I have guided 760 students through vocal training, from nervous beginners to more advanced singers preparing for serious performance opportunities. My own vocal training combines classical foundations with years of professional performance experience across several musical styles. I am a demanding but genuinely supportive tutor, believing real vocal mastery requires patient, deliberate practice rather than rushed repetition. Several of my tutoring relationships have lasted many years, letting me guide a student's entire vocal journey from first lessons through confident public performance. Watching former students go on to perform professionally or pursue music seriously remains one of the most meaningful parts of my career.

After fifteen years teaching singing, I rely on detailed diagnostic listening at the start of every tutoring relationship, identifying exactly where a student's vocal technique needs focused attention before building a tailored practice plan. Breathing, resonance, and pitch control are addressed through structured exercises tied directly to the specific repertoire a student is working toward. Practice is broken into short, targeted segments rather than long unfocused sessions, since consistent deliberate work builds vocal control more reliably than occasional intense practice. For performance or audition preparation I schedule frequent mock performances under realistic conditions, since strong technique alone rarely guarantees confident live singing. I maintain detailed long term progress records for every student, tracking subtle vocal development across months of lessons.
