About Kathir

Hi! My name is Kathir, and I’m a Canadian university student studying International Development and Globalization at the University of Ottawa.

I tutor social sciences, history, politics, international relations, development studies, essay writing, and academic writing. My goal is to help students make sense of complex topics, manage heavy workloads, and build confidence in their academic skills. I can help you understand course concepts, break down readings, analyze arguments, plan essays, strengthen your thesis, improve clarity, and connect what you are learning to real-world examples.

I have a strong writing background, both academically and professionally. I received a 5 on the AP English Literature and Composition exam, and I have written research papers, long academic reports on international relations, speeches and briefings delivered at the United Nations, and written materials for different international organizations. I've also worked on development projects across Africa, South America, Europe, and the Middle East. Because of this, I can help students not only enhance their writing, but also understand how to make their ideas stronger and more persuasive in different contexts.

I also have experience teaching youth, adults, and children with autism through my work as a swim instructor. I am comfortable with the different learning needs and teaching styles that will help you succeed. I try to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, so they can focus on developing the long-term skills that you'll need to succeed.

Whether you need help starting an essay, improving a draft, preparing for a presentation, understanding readings, strengthening your analysis, or becoming a stronger writer, I’d be happy to help!

My lessons are designed to be practical, and personalized to each student’s needs. I focus on helping you understand complex social science topics in a way that feels connected to the real world, so that you can apply the knowledge you learn in class.

For the social sciences, I help students break down key concepts, understand course readings, prepare for discussions, organize research, and connect theories to current events and real-world examples. Whether we are looking at global conflict, diplomacy, human rights, development, political systems, colonialism, migration, or international organizations, my goal is to help students understand not just what is being taught, but why it matters.

For essays, research papers, and presentations, I usually begin by helping students understand the assignment and organize the tasks. From there, we can work on thesis statements, argumentation, essay structure, paragraph development, evidence, citations, analysis, and clarity. I believe in an approach that builds long-term skills in thinking, writing, and application. I make sure to explain the reasoning behind each suggestion so students can build stronger academic skills over time.

My combination of academic writing, professional writing, and real-world experience in international affairs helps me give you quality guidance. I have written research papers, reports, speeches, briefings, and materials for international organizations, including work presented at high-level international settings such as the United Nations. This background allows me to help students approach social science subjects with stronger analysis, clearer writing, and a better understanding of how these topics connect beyond the classroom.

I also have experience teaching youth, adults, and children with autism through my work as a swim instructor. I am comfortable teaching a variety of different learners, and I can adapt to many different learning styles. I try to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, so that they can build and apply their skills.

My lessons are best suited for high school students, first-year university students, and anyone studying history, politics, international relations, development, or related humanities and social science subjects. Whether you need help understanding readings, planning an essay, improving a draft, preparing a presentation, or strengthening your analysis, I will meet you where you are and help you move forward step by step.
