About Charlie
I have been tutoring informally ever since high school. In college, I was appointed to official tutoring and course staff/teaching positions for 3 years of collegiate teaching experience. They covered a wide range of subjects, mostly in STEM. In high school, it was physics, and in college it was both physics and discrete math as well as introductory programming. I have had explicit training in pedagogy and teaching training as well, mostly in discrete math and probability.
I graduated from UC Berkeley with an EECS (focus on Computer Science) degree and math minor, and work in the tech industry now.

I believe strongly in the Socratic Method. This is the primary method that we were trained in during pedagogy class.
The socratic method is where the student(s) and instructor participate in an interactive discussion about the content, rather than just passive lecturing from the instructor.
I am a graduated mathematics and CS student from UC Berkeley who can teach all fields of mathematics through the undergraduate level (sorry PhDs and Master's students). I am also trained in pedagogy - the study of teaching. Targeted primarily to current students, though working people wanting to brush up on their math skills are welcome! I am also willing to tutor math olympiad hopefuls up to the High School level.
I want every student to come to class active and ready to answer questions and do problems. This has been shown to greatly increase learning efficiency and outcomes.
A typical lesson would be me introducing the topic is a straightforward manner, such that no misconceptions can occur (misconceptions in math should be nipped in the bud). And then we will follow by me taking questions about any premise in the math, or by me asking the student to explain their understanding of it. And of course, practice problems to validate understanding!

Charlie does a great job explaining concepts and problems. He's really accommodating and easy to work with!
Charlie tutored me in Discrete Mathematics and Probability Theory. He explained concepts really clearly and went above and beyond to understand and correct his student's gaps in knowledge. His teaching style involves building up from the basics which is really helpful when you are confused. I would recommend Charlie as a tutor because of his really good understanding of subject material and ability to convey that material really clearly.
