About Reece
¡Hola! My name is Reece, and I am a 21-year-old American and British citizen, who is currently attending UNCW, studying international business and Spanish as a double major. I have travelled to 25 different countries in Europe, Africa and South/Central America both alone and with my family for many different reasons - whether that be for holidays, school, mission trips, camping, conferences or translating for various teams. Among my favourite countries to visit are the Spanish-speaking ones, such as Spain, Mexico, Guatemala and Paraguay because it allows me to practise my Spanish and become more familiar with the various dialects and cultural differences of one of the world’s most useful and widely spoken languages. I attended a private, Christian high school in Madrid, Spain for four year, where I became fluent in Castilian Spanish. Moving back to the United States for university and travelling to Central and South America, has given me knowledge on Latin-American Spanish as well. I am well versed in what students will encounter in both middle/high school; university; and standardised testing, such as the AP Spanish exam, which I have taken myself (and scored a 5, the highest possible score). I am also part of an editing group called "Write-Pathway", editing and proofreading Spanish.
I am currently enrolled in a graduate-level Spanish class at UNCW as an undergraduate, working on learning French and trying to obtain my Irish passport through my dad!

I am able to give lessons at all levels of Spanish. I am able to teach both with a Latin-American vocabulary and accent as well as a Castilian (Spain) vocabulary and accent. I do prefer Castilian, though, as I learned my Spanish in Spain.
I primarily would like to help students out with school work, going through particular chapters and subjects of Spanish.
Since I am a native English speaker, I know the struggle or learning a new language, and I can remember vividly what it was like to not know anything and then start to become fluent. Because of this, I am able to explain concepts and rules better than some native speakers can.
I am convinced the best way to learn quickly is to immerse yourself in a Spanish-speaking country and to find ways to maintain your Spanish through conversation, reading, writing and listening.

I've know Reece Tierney for over a year. He was a student in my SPN 305--Spanish Composition course at the University of North Carolina Wilmington in the spring semester of 2020. I was struck immediately by Reece's high level of proficiency in Spanish. He attended high school in Spain and sounds like a native speaker of Spanish. He did excellent work in my course. He is very detail oriented and has an academically curious nature. The essays he wrote in this course were truly outstanding. He also strikes me as a very balanced and mature individual. He is a very nice guy. If you are a student in need of a Spanish tutor, I would highly recommend Reece to you with no reservations.

University of North Carolina WilmingtonReece is a Spanish major at UNCW. He took Spanish Phonetics (SPN 307) with me last year and is currently in a graduate-level linguistics course with me. Reece lived in Spain during high school and has native-like fluency in Spanish. I highly recommend him as a Spanish tutor!
