About Maria Jose
Hi, my name is Maria Jose de Acha, I was born and raised in Bolivia. I have over 7 years of experience in education, my teaching experience ranging from preschools to undergraduate degrees. I have developed strong skills in not only planning ahead, but also coming up with quick solutions, when unexpected situations arise in time-sensitive matters. I’ve enjoyed the fast-paced, people-focused environments, that taught me leadership, adaptability, and effective communication, and required me to be fully in the present moment.

I believe the best way to become more fluent in a language is to dive right in. First, we will ease into a simple conversation (Name, birthplace, favorite color, etc.) to evaluate your level and identify where you need to improve and what you would like to improve. After that initial conversation, I will give you small texts to read and chat about in the next lesson, simultaneously working on both speaking and reading. Lastly, I will introduce you to different phrases in Spanish, common to certain countries and areas, and teach you how and when to use them in conversation (Did you know every Spanish speaking country has a different word for straw and popcorn?). I grew up in Bolivia, very much exposed to all the different accents in Latin America, due to extensive traveling and media being predominantly foreign. I also had the distinct opportunity to learn English from teachers from different English speaking countries since I was four. I believe these factors contribute to a different Spanish lesson, as I understand communication in any language is not "one-size-fits-all". These lessons are primarily aimed towards anyone who wants to become proficient and fluent in Spanish, especially if your degree or career path requires it. This lesson would be best for anyone in an undergraduate or graduate course, but it is open to anyone interested in improving their Spanish. I'm excited to meet you and am looking forward to what we can accomplish together :)
