• Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  I speak Spanish fluently because I grew up in a Spanish-speaking country. Colombia is a country rich in terminology and offering a variety of expressions that allowed me to immerse myself in the language naturally. However, it wasn't just my origins-I also had an incredible education with teachers who helped me understand the deeper nuances of the Spanish language, from its grammar to its rich cultural context.

• Can you name a living, historical, or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  Gabriel García Márquez, the Colombian Nobel literature, He is a perfect representation of the Spanish language's culture. His works, such as Cien años de soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude), beautifully illustrate the magic, complexity, and richness of the Spanish-speaking world.

• Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition, or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

  One of my favorite phrases in Spanish is "El mundo es un pañuelo" (literally, "The world is a handkerchief"), which means "It's a small world." It reflects how we find unexpected connections, much like the serendipity and warmth that characterize Spanish-speaking cultures.

• Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  Speaking Spanish matters to me because it's a bridge to a vibrant and diverse community spanning continents. It connects me to my heritage, allows me to explore incredible literature and music, and gives me the ability to share this treasure with others through teaching.

• What is the main difficulty in learning this language, and what can help the process of learning?

  The main difficulty is mastering verb conjugations and understanding regional variations in vocabulary and pronunciation. What helps is consistent practice, exposure to native speakers, and using engaging resources like music, movies, and books tailored to the learner's level.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  I remember helping a classmate who was struggling with Spanish to prepare for a school play. We worked tirelessly on her lines, and when she delivered them flawlessly during the performance, she was beaming with pride. That moment reaffirmed how teaching and learning a language can build confidence and open doors to unforgettable experiences.

• How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  Traveling around Colombia, Mexico, Spain was a transformative experience. Walking through different streets, I encountered the unique accents, idiomatic expressions, and cultural traditions of different regions. It made me realize how alive and dynamic the Spanish language is.
