I want to teach because I feel that the teaching occupation is so overlooked among society today and we truly don't give as much credit as needed. Teachers can impact an entire generation, and the difficulties that come with being a teacher having to handle many students can be daunting. Personally, my short-term goal for my students would be that by at least 1-2 months. My students will know how to say their name and how to introduce themselves such as name as well as where they are from. My long-term goal for teaching is to have my students master the basic sentence structure, grammar rules and culture. I really want to encourage my students to strengthen their language skills and feel comfortable to use the language in any setting.

I personally resonate with the Direct Approach, the Affective Humanistic Approach, as well as the Communicative Approach because I want my students to have a comfortable environment for them to grow and enhance their knowledge & understanding of a language. These approaches give the students and the teacher a space to allow critical thinking and decision making as well as a better understanding of said lessons and activities. The practices that fall under Affective Humanistic Approach such as positive reinforcement, spontaneous and creative activities or games. I resonate with these practices because they provide a playful yet creative environment to allow students to make significant progress positively. I am considering teaching Elementary as well as Middle school students. My teaching style will invoke curiosity and create a want/desire to learn about different languages and cultures to my students.

Personally, I will be using the 80/20 rule as well as Warm Language to assist my lesson planning & teaching. I spend about 20% of my instruction time going over the lesson, showing examples, answering any questions regarding the assignment, explaining instruction and activities in detail. I allow my students 80% of practice but I split it into 40% Guided and 40% Independent practice, depending on the task and the understanding of the assignment. Depending on my students and how many classes I will have to maintain, would help determine the point system. Ultimately, I'll be grading them based on 3 categories: Class Participation, Test Scores and Class Behavior Overall. I will use this point system to motivate and keep track of students' academics as well as behavioral. Depending on which class period wins, they will receive a pizza party with snacks at the end of each quarter. It will motivate students to participate throughout the year. As a beginner ESL teacher working with students in grades K–8, I use warm language every day to help my students feel safe, supported, and confident as they learn English. My goal is to create a classroom where students feel comfortable taking risks, making mistakes, and growing at their own pace. I will assess my students with quizzes, unit tests, games & class projects, to evaluate my students' knowledge with creative yet fun activities.
