About Augustin
Hi! I'm Augustin, a third-year PhD candidate in Biology at the University of Ottawa, originally from Lyon, France.
I have a Master's degree in Ecology, Evolution and Genomics, which I completed at the top of my class, and I'm currently conducting research in evolutionary biology. My research involves working extensively with statistical models, R, and large biological datasets, so data analysis has become a major part of my academic work.
I've also been a private tutor for over four years, and a teaching assistant in biostatistics over multiple sessions at the University of Ottawa. I really enjoy teaching, and my goal is always to help students understand the reasoning behind an analysis rather than simply giving them a piece of code to run.
I can help with everything from learning the basics of R, RStudio, VScode and Positron to choosing appropriate statistical methods, troubleshooting code, interpreting model outputs, and understanding how to communicate your results.
I'm particularly comfortable working with biological and ecological data, but the statistical and R skills we work on can be applied to many different fields.
I teach in both English and French, and I'm available preferably online, but we can discuss for in-person lessons in Ottawa.

My approach is centered around understanding both the statistical reasoning and the implementation in R.
When working with a student's own data, I first make sure we understand the research question and the structure of the dataset. We then discuss which statistical approach is appropriate and why, before implementing it in R and interpreting the results.
Depending on the student's need, we can focus on learning R from the ground up, understanding a particular statistical method, troubleshooting existing code, improving a data analysis, or learning how to interpret and present statistical results.
I encourage students to write and understand their own code rather than simply copying solutions. My goal is for you to leave the lesson with both a working analysis and a better understanding of how and why it works.
