About Dewald
Hi! My name is Dewald, and I’m passionate about making genetics understandable, engaging, and relevant for students at all levels. I hold an MSc in Science from the University of the Witwatersrand, where I developed a strong background in molecular genetics, plant and animal genotyping, and ecological genetics. I’ve also worked as a teaching assistant at Wits, guiding undergraduate students through practical lab work and theoretical concepts in genetics and related fields. With several years of experience in tutoring, lab work, and academic support, I understand the pressures students face and the importance of clear, supportive instruction. I’m patient, approachable, and committed to helping you succeed. I teach in both English and Afrikaans, and I’m happy to adjust my style to suit your learning pace.

As a private tutor, I take a personalized and student-centered approach to teaching genetics. I believe in creating a safe, engaging space where students feel confident asking questions and making mistakes—because that’s how real learning happens.
What makes me unique as a teacher is my strong academic background in genetics, combined with hands-on experience in both teaching and laboratory research. I understand the challenges students face because I’ve guided many through similar hurdles. Whether you're struggling with Mendelian inheritance, DNA replication, PCR techniques, or population genetics, I break down each topic into manageable, logical steps.
I am proficient and able to teach in English and Afrikaans, ensuring that language is never a barrier to understanding.
