About Dannie
Hi! I’m Dannie, an English tutor and a student at Harvard College studying English. I specialize in helping middle and high school students strengthen their reading and writing skills—from analytical essays to creative expression. I’ve led lessons on texts like To Kill a Mockingbird (a personal favorite to teach!) and love tailoring sessions to meet each student’s pace and interests. Alongside tutoring, I’ve taken part in many creative writing workshops at school and write short fiction of my own. My approach is thoughtful, encouraging, and flexible—my goal is to build both skills and confidence, creating a space where students feel supported and engaged.

My Approach as an English Tutor:
My teaching style is supportive, adaptive, and student-centered. I aim to build both skills and confidence, creating a space where students feel safe to express themselves, make mistakes, and grow. I believe that tutoring is most effective when it’s collaborative—when students feel seen, heard, and gently challenged to expand their thinking.
In terms of materials, I typically start by finding strong lesson plans or worksheets online and tailoring them to the student’s needs. I bring in my own twist—whether that’s rephrasing prompts to make them more relatable, adding discussion questions to encourage reflection, or shifting the tone to be more creative or playful. I also pay close attention to how a student responds during a session, and I adjust accordingly: sometimes we move more slowly, other times we lean into a topic that sparks their interest.
A typical lesson includes a warm-up or review, a core focus (like writing structure, grammar, or literary analysis), and space for application—through writing, discussion, or targeted practice. I like to end with a small reflection: What felt clear? What felt tricky? That way, we can grow together session by session.
What sets me apart is my ability to meet students where they are while nurturing a sense of purpose in their work. I approach tutoring not just as instruction, but as mentorship. My lessons are ideal for middle and high school students, especially those who benefit from a more relational and creative approach to English.
