About Abbie
Hello! I’m a passionate and experienced language tutor currently studying French and Russian at the University of Oxford. I’ve spent a year tutoring French online, helping students at various levels gain confidence, improve their marks, and discover the joy of language learning. I’ve also taught a university-level French-to-English translation class at an Oxford summer school, working with high-achieving sixth formers aiming for top universities. Beyond the classroom, I’ve had hands-on experience with language in real-world settings. I lived in Estonia for a year, where I worked in a Russian-speaking youth centre, leading sessions for children and teenagers aged 5 to 18, entirely in Russian. I also worked as a sous-chef in a French restaurant, which deepened my cultural understanding and fluency in practical contexts. I know how daunting learning a new language can feel, but I also know how rewarding it is. My goal is to create a space where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and developing real confidence. Whether you’re preparing for GCSEs or A Levels, starting from scratch, or just want to improve your fluency, I’ll tailor my approach to support your learning journey.

As an Oxford university student of French and Russian, I offer engaging, structured, and flexible lessons in French, German, and Russian. I teach at beginner level, GCSE, and A Level, adapting my methods to each student's needs, whether you're just starting out or aiming for top marks in an exam. My lessons typically last an hour, though I'm happy to extend or condense this depending on your goals and schedule. I place a strong emphasis on helping students develop a deep understanding of grammar and vocabulary in context, while also building confidence in speaking and listening. Lessons are interactive, with a mix of explanation, exercises, games, and real cultural material - from short texts to film clips - to bring the language to life. I’ve lived with a Russian-speaking host family in Estonia and worked as a sous-chef in a French restaurant, so I bring cultural insight and authenticity to my teaching. I’m especially passionate about literature, foreign film, and the connections between language and thought, and I try to spark that same curiosity in my students.
