About Iona
Available for summer tutoring only.
I have experience of working with primary and secondary aged students though informal tutoring and leading summer camps. I have been described by qualified teachers as having a rare and delightful enthusiasm when interacting with students. I'm able and willing to work with any age and stage, including adults!
I have a 2.i from the University of Cambridge and a TEFl teach online certificate. In addition, I was a teaching assistant for three years for an extracurricular online literature course.

I challenge students to reach their own conclusions, directing and providing information as needed. It's important for students to see that they are able to learn and adapt no matter how successful or unsuccessful they feel at the subject to begin with. A typical lesson for Latin or Greek might go as follows:
I start by reviewing any homework (set by either me or the school), to ground students' understanding so that exam revision will be easier and more enjoyable. For set texts, the student translates and I facilitate by supplying vocabulary and flagging up difficult grammar. Questions are encouraged as we work together to help the student feel confident in their own ability. My approach to language is rigorous and I believe memorisation to be an invaluable tool, but there are many ways to go about this in an engaging way that gives the student a real understanding of what is going on.
