About Abteen
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from UC Riverside with a B.S. in Biology, earning a 3.97 cumulative GPA and 3.99 science GPA. My advanced science coursework included Human Anatomy and Physiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Neuroscience, Human Neuroanatomy, Virology, and Biochemistry, giving me a strong foundation across the biological sciences.
I am currently a pre-dental student applying to dental school and earned a 480 Academic Average and 500 Total Science on the DAT, placing me around the 94th and 95th percentiles, respectively. My academic background is complemented by undergraduate molecular biology research involving RNA interference and plant-pathogen interactions.
Teaching has also been an important part of my academic experience. I served as an Undergraduate Learning Assistant for Organic Chemistry at UCR, where I worked directly with students and adapted explanations to different learning styles. I have also provided paid one-on-one General and Organic Chemistry tutoring and currently work professionally as an academic tutor with TutorNerds, specifically focusing on K-12 material.
I understand firsthand that challenging material often becomes manageable once it is explained in the right way. I bring patience, strong subject knowledge, and an individualized approach to every student I work with. My goal is not simply to help students improve their grades, but to help them understand the material, strengthen their study habits, and develop the confidence to solve problems independently.

My approach to tutoring is centered on understanding how each student thinks rather than using the same explanation for everyone. I begin by identifying the student’s current understanding, strengths, and areas of difficulty, then tailor each lesson accordingly. I use guided questions, step-by-step explanations, practice problems, and active recall to help students understand concepts rather than simply memorize answers.
My experience as a UCR Organic Chemistry Learning Assistant taught me that two students can struggle with the same problem for completely different reasons. I therefore adjust my explanations until we find an approach that makes sense to the individual student.
Lessons typically include reviewing difficult material, working through problems together, identifying patterns in mistakes, and developing strategies the student can eventually use independently. I can also help with organization, study habits, test preparation, and building academic confidence.
I work with elementary through college-level students, with particular strengths in Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, general Science, and Math. My goal is not just to help students get the right answer, but to help them understand why it is right and become more confident solving problems on their own.
