About Dr Sharmin
I am a Neuroscience graduate (PhD, Canada) with a postdoctoral fellowship completed from the Department of Neurology at the University of British Columbia (Canadian top 3 university). I also have a BSc in Neuroscience (U.S.A., GPA 3.89) and received the Dean's Award in Neuroscience (presented to only one Neuroscience student).
During my PhD, I used genetically-encoded fluorescent plasmids to electroporate neurons in vivo and identified the presence of dendritic growth cones in intact living animals. I also collaborated with a colleague to develop a MATLAB-based tool to quantitatively analyse the growth patterns of dendrites in 3-Dimensions. This work from my PhD dissertation has been published in a peer-reviewed journal. The methods used in this work was also published in a book chapter in a Springer methods chapter.
I conducted my postdoctoral fellowship at the Canadian Kids Brain Health Network, a national organisation dedicated to neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g. ADHD, Autism, FASD) in children in Canada. During this fellowship I became the Associate Editor of a 500+ page book on the future of brain science and technology, which was published by the Oxford University Press (see references in 'Details' section below). I have presented numerous scientific posters and talks at numerous professional conferences in the U.S.A. and Canada, including: the largest international neuroscience conference "Society for Neuroscience Conference".
Science is fun and amazing, and I'd love to be a stepping stone to your next success!

I have mentored and taught practical and theoretical advanced biology techniques to students who have excelled in their chosen fields, ranging from medicine to cell and molecular biology research to allied health professions. I am well-positioned provide practical insight into research design from personal experience.
