In my classes, I use real-life examples and case studies to illustrate the practical applications of databases across different industries. This helps students connect theoretical knowledge to practical usage, enabling a deeper understanding of how databases function in the business world. I find that these real-world examples make the learning process more engaging and relatable. As a databases tutor, I encourage interactive learning by engaging students in discussions and group activities. Collaborative problem-solving sessions allow students to apply their knowledge to solve database design and implementation challenges. I believe active participation fosters a better understanding of the subject matter. I place a strong emphasis on database design principles, guiding students through the process of creating well-structured, normalised databases. This includes entity-relationship modelling, schema design, normalisation techniques, and understanding data integrity constraints. By emphasising these aspects, students gain a solid foundation in building efficient and scalable databases.
