About Baltazar
I'm a lifelong educator! After loving math throughout my time in school, I took a break from it in college (I had placed out of the required classes and wanted to learn something else). I came back to it when I graduated and started my career as a middle school math teacher.
I have been lucky enough to teach and tutor thousands of students, some of whom shared my love of math and some of whom definitely didn't! I taught for 6 years and have a Masters of Science in Secondary Mathematics (John's Hopkins) and Masters in Education Leadership (Columbia University). Currently, I work in the tech industry which has built flexibility into my schedule to support a few regular clients with personalized 1:1 math tutoring.

My approach as a tutor is similar to how I approached my lessons as a teacher and that means putting my students, their goals, and their learning needs at the center and planning for the time around that.
It it helpful to have advanced information on the learning goals we will be working towards so that I may prepare key questions and insights, design tiered clarifications and extensions, and truly personalize our time together in a way that will be most valuable to my student. After our first session, I find it helpful to collect some initial feedback and what worked and might benefit from changing as well as scope out what the next number of sessions together will focus on.
For those who cannot share advanced detail on what they would like to focus on during our session, I can accommodate students who are seeking immediate support (related to a specific problem set or topic) within any of my certified fields with an exploratory or problem-based approach.
