About Vikrum
I am a Classics undergraduate and I've just completed my first year at Oxford University. I believe that I am a suitable tutor because I sat A-levels last year, so all the tips and tricks are fresh in my mind. I think that both GCSEs and A-levels are extremely prescriptive - the examiners are looking for specific things. Knowing how to approach these exams is half the battle. Language Provision: Translating ancient languages requires a solid grasp of grammar, syntax, and vocabulary. I will provide weekly vocabulary lists and grammar tables for independent study, while lessons will concentrate on syntax. Each session will be interactive and engaging, centred around guided translation exercises that feature a variety of syntactical constructions. We will typically focus on two constructions per lesson. This method of teaching will give you the tools to recognise and translate all constructions, and to analyse grammatical forms quickly. Literature Provision: I am able to teach most set texts at both GCSE and A-level. Lessons will involve close reading and translation of challenging passages in the original language, with an emphasis on developing linguistic confidence and literary insight. I will also provide guidance on how to approach commentaries and essay questions effectively.
