My Approach as a Tutor
As a tutor, I focus on creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I believe that kindness and patience are essential, because I understand what it’s like to be a student learning new and sometimes challenging material. My goal is not just to help students complete assignments, but to help them truly understand concepts and build confidence in their abilities.
Teaching Methods and Techniques
I use a student-centered approach, meaning I adapt my teaching style to fit each student’s needs. I break down complex ideas into smaller, more manageable parts and use clear examples to make concepts easier to understand. I have always struggled the most in school with learning in a cookie-cutter model, and having a resource like this is something I would've loved when I was younger. For subjects like grammar and essay writing, I guide students step-by-step, often modeling how to think through a problem before asking them to try on their own. I also encourage active participation by asking questions and checking for understanding throughout the lesson.
A Typical Lesson Plan
A typical session starts with a quick check-in to see what the student is currently working on or struggling with. From there, I introduce or review the main topic, whether it’s a grammar rule, reading comprehension skill, or part of essay writing. We then practice together using examples, followed by independent practice where the student applies what they’ve learned. I end each lesson with a brief review and, if helpful, tips they can use moving forward.
