About Rudi
My name is Rudi Fourie.
Ever since I was a little boy, I always wanted to become either a Pastor at a Church (i was like 3 when i decided that tho!) but it was when i started primary school that i decided I wanted to be a teacher. I was extremely shy and was so envious of the teacher having the courage to stand up in front of all those kids and just be able to TALK! Wow, how does she do it? Isn't she like scared to bits of just being able to talk to this whole group, and the principal? Standing in front of hundreds of children and being able to talk with such charisma and authority that everyone was listening to his every word.
Well unfortunately, my dream of becoming a teacher didn't work out so well and I had to start working so I reluctantly took my first proper job, working for a call centre of a big security company in Cape Town.
Even though I dreaded having to answer the telephones, because of my shyness / social anxiety, i knew I had to as someone's life might depend on me answering that call or not. Soo, I pushed on and answered the calls, even progressing from telephones to working with Security Officers responding to alarms. Through the years I've been working in various call centres and I realised, if it wasn't that dreaded first job I took so reluctantly, I would never have built up the confidence and being able to actually communicate with anybody and thus, to pursue what i'm doing today. To become my Hero, the teacher, the one who can teach the kids of today, my number one passion: Computers. Technology. Call me a geek, but I just loved these things since i was like 8 or 10, when I started watching what my uncle was doing on his (THEN!) State of the Art IBM 8088 running at whopping 8 MEGAhertz speeds. Yes, kids that wasn't a typo, that is MEGAhertz and not GIGAhertz. The screen was this lovely beige beauty that could only show 2 colors, orange and black. I hope to inspire a few of you the same way I was inspired. Heck, if i can inspire one student through all of this, it would be a dream come true.
(BTW: Let's see if one of my students can point out the one mistake I made in that whole ABOUT ME description.! 10 points will be awarded not to Gryffindor, but to the first student that get's it correct.)

I'm very hands-on when it comes to teaching Computers. I believe the best way to learn how to build a computer, is not by watching an online video but handling the hardware themselves and building it themselves with guidance from a teacher who is passionate about computers, and also about teaching. I find a lot of kids (and adults!) are scared to even open a computer case, as they're scared they might break something.
I believe small classes of about 4 students is the perfect balance between still being able to provide personal attention where needed and not letting a class drag out too long. (group packages can be arranged if eg a school can get a few students to sign up for a class). The class can then be provided at said school without the need for the group to travel to me. Ideally groups would be split according to age group so that i can adapt my teaching style according to the group.
One on one classes can also be arranged. (I understand that some students can be very shy in a class room - i know i was!. So, if your student needs a one on one experience either due to shyness or social anxiety or perhaps just that you prefer it that way for me to come teach the lesson at your residence. (eg. you're a mom working from home and not being able to travel to me)
Packages can be customized according to the students needs (and the parents' budget ofcourse! :) ) eg, a course can be customized where the student can opt to keep the PC they built at the end of the course, thus providing a real sense of accomplishment to the student, especially if it's like their first time interacting with computer hardware.
My teaching style:
- Humor
- I'm fully bilingual in English and Afrikaans. Having worked in the call centre industry for 20+ years, I know how to communicate effectively and on all levels. Being able to adapt to your audience is fundamental in creating that teacher/student bond and thus delivering the lesson in the most effective and appropriate manner.
- being able to relate to students who are interested in computer and technology as a whole, as i was also that 10-18 year old kid at some point, wanting so bad to have great gaming pc (but having to settle for a below average one I bought with money I saved up selling home made ginger beer on a wine farm in Stellenbosch!)
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor
Rudi is a great tutor because he understands how to communicate patiently and effectively. Working with him offered me a chance to expand my own computer skills. He knows how to troubleshoot, provide basic and expert knowledge of Microsoft Office. I recommend Rudi because he has the necessary interpersonal skills for providing this service on this platform. It will be extremely valuable to be taught by him.
I know Rudi personally. He will be a good superprof as he explains things in detail, in a way that is easy to understand. He also knows quite a lot about the inner workings of a PC, as well as hardware and software.
