About Siyan
Hello, My name is Siyan Jeyakumar, and I’m passionate about helping students achieve their full potential in mathematics. With a strong background in maths, including achieving a Grade 8 at GCSE, and a current pursuit of a BSc (Hons) in Accounting and Finance at the University of Brighton, I have both the knowledge and enthusiasm to guide you towards success. Teaching maths is more than just explaining numbers and formulas—it’s about building confidence, problem-solving skills, and a love for learning. I’ve always enjoyed supporting others, whether through tutoring peers or helping younger students understand challenging topics. Seeing students overcome their fears of maths and achieve results they didn’t think were possible is incredibly rewarding for me. My teaching approach is tailored to meet your individual needs. Whether you find certain concepts tricky or want to push for top grades, I’m here to support you. Together, we’ll work step by step to make maths less intimidating and more enjoyable, focusing on understanding the "why" behind the answers. I understand how important it is to feel confident and comfortable with a tutor, so I strive to create a positive, encouraging environment where you feel supported every step of the way. With clear explanations, interactive methods, and regular feedback, I’ll help you not only improve your grades but also build the skills and confidence needed for long-term success. I’m excited to help you on your learning journey and show you just how achievable success in maths can be! Let’s work together to turn your goals into results.

My teaching approach is centred on making mathematics accessible and engaging for GCSE students by tailoring lessons to individual needs and learning styles. I emphasise: Building Strong Foundations: Focusing on core mathematical concepts to ensure students grasp the basics before progressing to advanced topics. Interactive Learning: Incorporating problem-solving activities, real-life examples, and visual aids to simplify abstract concepts. Step-by-Step Guidance: Breaking down complex problems into manageable steps to build confidence and reduce anxiety around challenging topics. Active Engagement: Encouraging students to ask questions, participate actively, and explore multiple problem-solving methods to deepen understanding. Assessment and Feedback: Conducting regular quizzes and assessments to track progress, identify areas of improvement, and provide constructive feedback. I also employ digital tools like interactive whiteboards, graphing calculators, and educational software to make lessons dynamic and effective. Typical Length of a Lesson A typical lesson lasts 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the student's concentration span and the complexity of the topic. This length ensures enough time for: A brief recap of the previous lesson. Introducing and explaining a new concept. Guided practice with sample problems. Independent problem-solving with my support. Concluding with a summary and assigning targeted practice tasks. Qualifications/Experience as a Tutor I am pursuing a BSc (Hons) in Accounting and Finance at the University of Brighton (2024–2027), which has honed my mathematical and analytical skills. Achieved Grade 8 in GCSE Mathematics, demonstrating a strong personal aptitude for the subject. Previous experience as a School Ambassador, where I developed skills in mentoring and guiding peers. Practical experience in tutoring peers and younger students informally, focusing on improving their confidence and academic performance in mathematics. Who the Lessons Are For Level: GCSE students studying mathematics, whether aiming to pass or achieve higher grades. Age: Typically students aged 14–16, though I am open to working with younger students preparing for GCSEs in advance. Needs: My lessons cater to students of all abilities, including those struggling with foundational concepts, needing help with specific topics, or seeking advanced challenges to excel in exams. By creating a supportive and structured environment, I aim to foster a positive attitude towards mathematics, helping students achieve their academic goals and build confidence in their abilities.
