About Haze
My name is Haze, I live in the sunny countryside of Devon in the UK. I am a fully qualified secondary school teacher (11~18yrs) and have taught for 19 years. During this time, I have mainly taught Art, Craft & Design, including the specialist areas of Textiles, Photography and Sculpture. I have also taught Engineering, Food Technology & Textiles Technology. I have also been the Art department primary liaison within some of my school settings, working with younger children (8~10yrs) weekly or on project-based work.
For the last seven years I have been the Head of Department and had broader responsibilities, e.g. Deputy Teaching & Learning, Head of Key Stage 3 Engineering and PE Department Lead. This experience enables me to guide your child through a range of activities whilst navigating the bigger learning journey they are on. I have recently left mainstream teaching with a goal to focus on smaller group teaching where I can give more attention and time to individual learners.
I am passionate and enthusiastic about young people finding a love for the ‘Arts’. I strongly believe that Art helps to connect all the subjects together and plays a vital role in young people finding a way to express themselves - whether that be through the act of making Art, gaining confidence in what they are capable of achieving or their ability to master the use of critical thinking and using a varied vocabulary to express their thoughts and opinions.
My lessons are geared towards the students finding inner confidence and falling in love with the making process. I firmly believe that the end outcomes will inevitably improve with practice, but building a love for ‘creating’ is essential. I want my students to have fun and tackle new challenges with a ‘can do’ attitude.
I am a mum of two, my daughter, 10 years and my son 7 years old. I understand the importance of building resilience and dedication to a child's learning from both a parent and teacher perspective. At times it can be difficult to embed these skills in our young people but ultimately it's a worthy challenge that I have consistently proven I can support young people to build upon.
I look forward to getting to know your child and building their Art skills and confidence. If you have any questions about my classes, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I am also open to suggestions for classes you would like to make available to your child.

I love all things creative, whether that be learning the basics of how to draw through to learning how to stone carve!
Working with mixed media is a particular passion of mine; mixing plastic polyfusion with hand stitching, markmaking development mixed with illustrational collage, sculpting with any 3D media (soap carving, thermalite blocks, mod-roc, pulp-machie etc) or sharing 'hints and tips' on how to build the foundation skills of drawing. Basic household items, kitchen cupboards and a garden shed can often supply you with all the necessary materials to explore these glorious art outcomes.
I have professional experience of teaching young people ranging from 8yrs through to 18yrs. I have a wide range of skills and disciplines to be able to match a wide variety of topics, themes and media. I am confident I can recreate the best elements of a physical working classroom on a digital platform. From my 19 years of teaching, I have a catalogue of examples to present and work towards with my students.
