About Angela
I have a PhD in English from the University of Adelaide. I'm also a qualified teacher (BEd) and experienced tutor, with a clear, accessible teaching style. My published academic writing has garnered various writing prizes and awards, as has my creative writing. I've also worked as an editor, mentor, peer-reviewer, writer-in-residence and writing workshop facilitator. Many of these roles have involved one-on-one learning and language/writing support. For me, there is no more worthy and rewarding work than assisting others to develop their writing skills and confidence; outcomes which empower people and improve lives.

I am writing to support Dr Anglela's application for teaching. Close to the completion of her second PhD at the University of Adelaide, she is well versed in the theory and practice of creative writing and English. A prestigious academic press published her monograph on Oscar Wilde. Its highly original thesis generated vigorous discussion in the Irish Press. Her knowledge of a broad range of literary genres and forms, as a critic and practitioner, is authoritative. Longstanding knowledge of the English canon and theory and practice of creative writing suggests that she will rise to any teaching challenge. I have known Angela Kingston for ten years. She is an experienced secondary and tertiary English teacher and creative writing workshop leader. In addition, her character is impeccable, her capacity for hard work admirable, her manner warm and encouraging, her delivery of difficult material clear and logical, and her analyses of arguments clear and sophisticated. I believe she is an experienced marker. I became interested in Angela's writing after first reading her published book and subsequently the engaging and unconventional novel manuscript generated by her PhD thesis. As a post-doctoral fellow, she sought to answer the same academic question in creative language. The subsequent novel embodies practice-led research. It is accessible, engaging, richly conceptualised, and strongly written. The historical acuity of nineteenth-century Dublin scenes impressed me. Dialogue enlivened the contemporary scenes. Dr Anglela and I have collaborated on other manuscript assessments. I have read her critical and creative work, most recently poetry in Saltbush Review, where she plays intertextually with sestina verse form.
Whilst I have not taught with Dr Anglela I recognise her competence and versatility in delivering and teaching English and Creative Writing curricula to undergraduates, in addition to her postgraduate load. I have no doubt that colleagues and students respond positively to her confidence, duty of care, and intellectual skill in supporting their respective pedagogies and studies.I have been working with Angela for the last year as her PhD supervisor. She has proved herself as reliable, dedicated and hardworking with creative and critical insights. I would highly recommend Angela as a writer and diligent teacher.
Angela's tutoring assistance continues to increase my knowledge and confidence in writing. Her manner is professional, patient and understanding, and encourages discussion.
I was Angie’s manager at the Writing Centre at the University of Adelaide; I am very familiar with her talents as a writer and teacher. She is highly consistent, patient and kind in her interactions with students from a wide range of backgrounds. She brings a high level of knowledge, expertise and creativity and a strong pedagogical understanding underpins all her work. Highly recommend.
I first met Dr Angela Kingston in 2019, when she successfully applied for a private writers' residency I had organised at Adventure Bay, Bruny Island. Angela has impressive writing credentials, as the author of Oscar Wilde as a Character in Victorian Fiction (Palgrave Macmillan, New York. At the time of her residency she had just begun her second PhD - this time, in Writing. Her second PhD is now close to completion. Following the residency, I asked Angela to edit a children's fiction manuscript of mine, and was most impressed with her insight and editing expertise. I have no doubt that that Angela's competent, knowledgeable and generous personality, combined with her background in teaching, literature and the writing industry, would make her an extremely popular 'Superprof'. She has my highest recommendation.
