About Steven
I have worked in EFL for almost twenty years as a teacher, trainer and Director of Studies (DoS). Teaching both children and adults of many nationalities, I am happy to meet the needs of everyone from beginners to proficient speakers. My nine years at St Giles International’s Platinum Centre, London, involved devising lessons and offering guidance for senior executives during their stay in London. I also taught English for Specific Purposes (ESP) to members of parliaments, doctors, vets and football association presidents. For the past five years I have been teaching English to Japanese nationals, as well as training them how to teach English to young learners (since its introduction as a compulsory subject in Japanese primary schools). I have also been teaching IELTS to Japanese students and English to Japanese teachers (to enable the language teachers to teach Japanese to non-Japanese speakers). Additionally, I lecture on the history of language teaching methodology. Prior to teaching, I worked in banking for over twenty years, mainly in the London corporate branches of overseas banks. As well as taking the opportunity to learn Danish during this time, I learnt about the challenges non-native speakers experience with the English language and was always happy to help them with learning language as an adult and appreciate the difficulties and nuances of a language. My main role was in ‘trade finance’ and this involved helping non-native speakers to prepare documentation for importing and exporting goods. I look forward to discovering how I can help you with your English language needs.

To whom it may concern,
My name is Camila Tabet and I am here to write a few words about Mr Steven Castle, my former English teacher. I have known Mr Steven Castle for over fifteen years. I first met him in 2005 as a Cambridge First Certificate teacher at King Street College, Hammersmith, West London.
My English learning process during Mr Castle’s classes were remarkable. I was 19 years old back then and was going through my very first international experience. I was born and raised in Brazil and speaking English like a true Londoner was completely out of my reach – or so I thought. Since the very first day of class Mr Castle proved himself to be very patient, polite, creative and interested in the development of his students.
I studied with Mr Castle for about 4 months during my FCE preparation. During that time I have improved my vocabulary (learned new words and expressions), practiced speaking and pronunciation and tried to absorb all of his knowledge of the English language. It is important to say that Mr Castle had always a simple and effective way of explaining something even if you don’t understand something the first time.
It was clear to me that Mr Castle was truly interested on helping the students to improve their abilities. He was always beloved among my classmates and cared enough about us to suggest extra interesting books to read and songs to listen (I still have Henry James’ The Turn of The Screw until this day).
I can say without any kind of exaggeration that I am pretty confident on my English skills and that many professional opportunities were taken by me due to my English level. Of course I am not as fluent as I once were (and unfortunately I lost the beautiful British accent) but I am sure I owe Mr Castle much of my professional and academic development.
Their students are lucky to have him as their teacher.
Yours faithfully,
Camila TabetSteve is an excellent teacher, from beginners to proficient students from grammar to pronunciation Steve doesn't only know how to get the best results from his students he understands teaching methodology and pedagogy. He is encouraging and precise and personalises all the classes for students. His materials are always current, relevent and interesting and he takes great time to ensure the best approach. Last but not least he is a friendly teacher who cares about his students and takes an interest and is able to make a connection with them that facilitates their learning. He is also a brilliant colleague and excellent manager.
