About Renata
I have been working as an actress and educator since 2012, and since 2015, I have dedicated myself to researching Butoh dance and physical theatre. My journey into this field began at LUME Teatro, a renowned theatre group with over 40 years of history, where I studied and practised the methodology developed by Luis Otavio Burnier. It was in 2015 that Butoh entered my life, profoundly transforming my perspective on art and existence. Through the works of Kazuo Ohno and Tatsumi Hijikata, I discovered the depth and power of Butoh as both an artistic practice and a way of life. Over time, Butoh has evolved from a subject of research into a guiding philosophy, shaping how I perceive movement, expression, and the human experience.

In my classes I work on essential elements for Butoh dance such as body and sensory awareness, diving and investigating oneself, activating primitive and ancestral memories. The poetics of existence, and the state of nothingness, a meditative state of emptying emotions, thoughts and feelings. These are just some of the techniques used to find Butoh dance, a dance that is very particular to each individual, as it is also a dance of their own existence. You don't have to be an artist or a dancer to dance this dance. I also talk a little about the theoretical part in my classes, explaining when this dance emerged and why. Always in a relaxed, individual class, where the student feels completely at ease and free to research the potential of their own body in their dance.
