About MURILO
Hello, my name is Murilo! I am a certified TEFL teacher based in Brazil. I studied in the United States from 2017 to 2018 at Belding High School, and it was a fantastic experience. I met a lot of friends, learned a lot of different subjects, from algebra and economics to astronomy, and played basketball on the school's varsity team, the Black Knights. From 2019 to the present, I have been studying to get my degree in Philosophy at Santa Maria Federal University (UFSM). I am interested in a wide range of subjects, so if you are interested in science, literature, visual arts, cinema, theatre, history, or similar topics, we can create lesson plans that revolve around these themes. I am a TEFL-certified teacher who teaches English online. I focus on developing skills and grammar for all levels.
The teaching structure I adopt is known as the PPP. This method involves three different stages: the presentation stage, the practice stage, and the production stage. The presentation stage is where I introduce the target language of the lesson, using pictures, dialogues, or real-life situations. Then, the practice stage is devoted to students practicing the target language covered in the presentation stage by answering questions orally, or filling in sentence gaps, and so on. This stage focuses primarily on accuracy rather than fluency; that is to say, it focuses on precision. Because of that, this stage will be more monitored by the teacher. Finally, we have the production stage, where students will primarily work on their own, using the target language of the lesson. This stage focuses on fluency rather than accuracy, so the student will have more freedom to experiment with the language without much interference from the teacher. There will still be corrections and feedback, but this stage is primarily meant to encourage students to use the language themselves.
This structure is a simple and effective way to teach English that can easily be adapted to different learning styles and goals. If you're looking to improve your speaking and pronunciation skills, or your writing and grammar for English tests, we can focus on either speaking activities or writing activities. On the other hand, if you are interested in improving your listening and reading skills, we can use various resources as tools for practice, such as movie scenes, TV shows, books, articles, songs, and dialogues.
