About Rory
I am a current Bachelor of Laws student at La Trobe University. During my Gap Year, I taught TEFL in Hohhot, China to classes ranging from one-on-one 'VIP' classes to classes of fifty teenagers. In more recent times, I have been working as a tutor at the Mitcham branch of EduKingdom.
I am also a multi-award winning poet, and currently write for my own enjoyment.

My teaching is based on ensuring that all classes are engaging and enjoyable. I aim to ensure that all of my students feel welcome and encouraged to achieve.
My lessons are primarily geared towards students of a Chinese background (as I speak conversational Mandarin). In teaching I maintain a 'no man left behind' approach: if any student is falling behind I speak to them privately and discuss methods to get them back on track. If this means varying my style according to their needs, then I proceed to do exactly that.
A standard lesson begins with a 'warmer' - usually a brief activity or quiz to get students thinking about English. Following this, practice in the area in question, for example in a vocabulary lesson the new words would be practiced, and usually a very relaxed quiz or activity would follow. Finally, I assign homework, and one final activity closes the lesson.
I firmly believe that combining fun and study ensures that students' attention is held. If a student feels that they are listened to and allowed to enjoy themselves then they often are more likely to actively participate in classes.
Most importantly, I believe that the key to a students success is inspiring them. Whether through success stories or simply rewarding their hard work with praise, a student that feels inspired will go onto achieve.
