About Nellie
I was a Fulbright English teaching scholar in Madrid for the last year teaching English as a second language. I am TESOL certified as well as have experience teaching English to adults in the United States. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Elon University with a degree in English literature and was a member of both Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Tau Delta.

I focus on task-based learning with a strong emphasis on conversational games and real-world application. I believe language is best learned through use, so my lessons are interactive and centered around meaningful communication. This approach helps build confidence, fluency, and practical skills in a natural and engaging way. A Typical Lesson Plan A typical lesson starts with a brief warm-up activity or game, followed by a task tailored to the learner’s goals—such as planning a trip, solving a problem, or creating something collaboratively. I integrate grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation support as needed, but always in the context of use. We wrap up with a reflection or feedback session to reinforce what was learned and set goals for the next lesson. What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor I bring a wide range of experience working with diverse cultures, age groups, and skill levels, which helps me tailor lessons effectively to individual learners. My background in English Language and Literature also allows me to support students with academic writing, rhetoric, and editing, in addition to conversational fluency.
