About D'Zerrea
I am a college student who has tutored students who are ages 2-22. I have tutored for 5 years. Many of my students have improved their reading and writing skills and their understanding of grammar, sentence structure, and essay format. Overall, several of my college students have seen an increase in grades.

My teaching method is more casual; open communication and solidified goals creates a path for an effective session. If a student can tell what an assigned writing prompt is asking for and can vocally answer the assigned questions, then the student will have the tools to tackle an essay. As your tutor, I will not only assist you on how to structure the essay through outlining, but I will push the student to think beyond the prompt. More importantly, I value the student’s comfort and understanding in order for the session to thrive beyond initial goals. If a student is confused, I'd be happy to hear any questions, help, and explain anything needed. Usually, I will begin essay-writing tutoring by having students communicate what the prompt is, what texts must be included, and what are their initial thoughts or "answers" on the prompt. Then, we will create an outline that must include a thesis statement and at least three main points and two supporting points/quotes. Finally, after the student completes the essay, the student and I will review the essay in detail to further perfect the essay.
