About Matilda
I was brought up with teachers as parents. They created a space where learning and education were valued, always providing time to sit and read to us. I believe doing this fostered my passion for reading and English. Having personal learning issues as a child, my mom worked hard at pushing me in subjects to catch up with my peers and did so by creating fun games we could do at home. These games incorporated my weekly sight words and other homework challenges. This experience made me realize how important it is to teach through games and enjoyment. I felt safe at home to be myself and ask questions others may deem obvious. I grew to love reading and excel in English in high school, so much, that I chose to pursue Literature at University.

During my years in high school, I and three other top English students were selected to volunteer with the Smith Family Reading Program. I tutored primary school students online with reading and comprehension. This experience strengthened my love for creating a safe environment where students feel confident to make mistakes and excel in specific academic goals. Previously tutoring for an hour, three sessions a week, I worked at creating reasonable and practical goals for reading and writing in between each tutoring session. I try to implement fun educational games to make the students feel like attending is not only worthwhile academically, but enjoying their time.
