About Lucy
I am an experienced violin tutor with 7 years of teaching and professional music experience, and I am passionate about helping students reach their full potential. I teach violin to school and college students at all levels, from beginners discovering their first notes to advanced learners preparing for performances and competitions.
One of the most meaningful milestones in my career has been guiding students from uncertainty or hesitation to confident, expressive performers capable of sharing music with others. My teaching approach emphasises strong fundamentals such as posture, bowing technique, finger placement, rhythm, tone, and intonation, while also fostering musical expression, creativity, and interpretation. I include music theory, sight-reading, and listening exercises to help students develop a comprehensive understanding of music.
Every student learns differently, and I adapt lessons to suit individual pace, goals, and style. I create a supportive, patient, and motivating learning environment where students feel safe to practice, make mistakes, and grow. Teaching violin allows me to inspire students, develop confidence, and cultivate a lifelong love for music and learning.

My violin teaching methodology emphasises motivation, communication, creativity, and integrity, creating lessons that are structured, engaging, and designed to inspire growth. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s learning style and goals, balancing technical exercises with creative projects and performance preparation.
Motivation drives my approach. I work with students to set meaningful goals, track progress, and celebrate milestones, fostering confidence and a sense of achievement. Communication ensures an interactive and collaborative environment where students feel comfortable expressing questions, challenges, and musical ideas.
Creativity is integrated through improvisation, interpretation, and composition exercises, allowing students to explore artistic expression and develop a personal musical voice. Integrity emphasises disciplined, responsible practice, forming the foundation for consistent progress and long-term success.
Alongside violin, I teach music theory, sight-reading, ear training, rhythm exercises, and basic piano, giving students a holistic understanding of music. This methodology nurtures confident, expressive, and motivated musicians who enjoy performing and connecting deeply with music.
