About Kate
I am a trainee primary school teacher. I am currently in my second year of study. I have had experience in all primary age phases. I have undertaken two professional practice placements, one in reception (age 4-5) and one in year two (age 6-7). However, within these placements, I have ensured that I am taking any opportunities I am given to teach in other age groups. I have spent two weeks in a year 5/6 (age 9-11) classroom, observing reading, writing mathematics and science. During this time, I took on the opportunity to work one-on-one with certain children, supporting them in areas they may struggle in. This experience has inspired me to continue doing this within my second placement. I work with students one-on-one who require additional support regarding Maths, English or Phonics.

Mathematics-
Lessons typically lasting 45 minutes. First session will allow for me to assess what the learner already knows, and addressing any misconceptions that may already be in place. Following the concrete, pictorial, abstract approach to teaching KS1/KS2 Mathematics. Focusing on developing learners reasoning and problem solving skills, allowing them to understand the topics further.
English-
Lessons typically lasting 45 minutes. First session will allow for me to assess what the student already knows regarding Reading, Writing, SPaG (Spelling Punctuation and Grammar) and Phonics (if required). If a child is either yet to pass their phonics screening test, or just requires extra support within phonics, I am able to offer tutoring for this. English tutoring will focus on all areas of English, however, a specific focus can be implemented if required.
