About Vera
I am a fourth-year student completing the Dual Degree program in Education and Mathematics at UBC. Throughout the years, I have had many opportunities to tutor students within the science field, high school level math being the main focus. Currently, I am working to become a certified secondary teacher.

I approach students with a variety of teaching techniques. I like to structure the lessons according to the student's preferences, whether that is helping out with homework, reviewing class material, or getting ahead with new topics. I like to use lots of examples while teaching, and I am able to provide additional exercises as well as the notes we complete together/video recordings. Many students are intimidated by math, which I believe comes from a lack of confidence once the subject gets tricky and fast-paced. One of the most important things to do to become more successful in math is by taking a step back and mastering the foundations on which every chapter is built - that understanding of techniques enables students to move on to the harder bits with confidence in their knowledge.

Ever since I moved to my high school as a new student, Vera has always stood out to me as someone who many people looked up to. Her academic standing in school is outstanding, as well as her involvement within the school and community. She has been a part of many volunteer organizations working with young children, as well as takes on a great leadership role within the peer mentoring program at Burnaby Mountain Secondary School, where her teaching skills and interactions with her peers do not go unnoticed. I believe Vera is a great candidate for the superprof members as her skills of excelling teaching would fit the criteria perfectly!
