About Matthew
I am a UCL/Cambridge MRes graduate, with an undergraduate degree in chemistry, and A levels in maths, chemistry and biology. I am now a trainee chartered accountant with a Top 20 Firm in London. Throughout my academic career, I have been passionate about these subjects and have always wanted to teach others. This includes my classmates, or those younger than me. I am excited if another shares this passion in science, but I like to impart my enthusiasm for the sciences and maths on anyone I can, best of all those who have the potential to study science. My specialism is chemistry, however I am strong in maths and biology given the inter-disciplinary nature of my degrees.

My preferred approach to tutoring is simple: Firstly approaching a subject area to work on - asking questions to assess prior knowledge. I try to fill in gaps and explain concepts as the conversation progresses to enhance understanding. Secondly - providing exam questions for the student to work on (can also be done in their own time and brought to the lesson to cover explanations) Thirdly - going over the questions with them, praising them if correct but teaching where understanding isn’t quite right. Whether this be concept based or not understanding the question; the root of the error will be found and corrected. These can be delivered in person or online, as I have taught via MS Teams in the past.
