About Tobias
Hey, I'm Tobi, and I'm a second year medical student at UCL. I remember being tutored by my friends and other school figures during both my A-Levels and medical application and how useful they were, so I'm excited to use my knowledge in helping other students progress further in their studies! Having already tutored a range of Sixth-form and University friends for three years and having taught literacy and maths at a primary school, I believe I'm well equipped to tutor new students - I always come to lessons with a lesson plan, tailoring its structure to the specific student, and explaining topics with a range of different techniques. I know tutoring and learning can be stressful, so I aim to support students in a safe environment where they feel comfortable to ask questions and get answers wrong. In the past, it has been incredibly rewarding to see tangible evidence of my help in my students, not only through their grade improvements but also through their increased confidence and independence, and I'm excited to be part of this process again!

My lessons will be flexible and entirely student-centred - I’ll base the content on subjects students want to flag up, and the format around how they best learn. I’ll explain topics verbally, with diagrams and analogies, and give them a range of material to revise between sessions which may include answering questions, watching YouTube videos, or completing exam-style content like past papers. I've learnt throughout my own experience that learning the 'why' behind concepts gives students a more comprehensive knowledge of the topic and will help them answer a larger range of questions, so I put a large emphasis on teaching this. This idea ultimately feeds into my goal of helping students gain confidence in themselves and work independently, in a safe environment where students are comfortable asking questions and getting the wrong answers without being reprimanded. I help students set clear goals and monitor their progress, providing the appropriate support where necessary, to get them achieving the grades they deserve. The length of my lessons would typically be 1 hour but this can be adapted, and I teach at A-Level, GCSE, and lower.
