Starting out is very simple:

Choose the type of art you are into, whether you like to explore magazines, books or online. It's fine if you cannot decide between a piece of art just yet. We'll choose one according to your level and skills.

When I have an idea of your visual preferences, in our personalised lessons, we will work on a piece of art that you will finish in around 4 sessions (yes, you will have a piece of art to show your friends, family and hang on the wall)

Progressively we are going to develop a study plan to cover different topics of your interest to implement in your canvases.
My lessons are very fluid and always open to experimentation and new ideas.

Don't hesitate to ask for my portfolio :)

  • When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

I started making art when I was a teenager, I think I'm a very sensitive person that feels touched by all sorts of emotions and feelings. I started creating as a writer when I was very young and then my art progressed to painting, but I've always been really curious with materials and mediums. I've tried everything that has allowed me to communicate a message, from sculpture to videography, performance and installation.
  • Which artists or works inspire you the most?

I'm always looking at several different artists, not much visually but conceptually. I resonate a lot with female artists, specifically Hilma af Klint and Remedios Varo in terms of painting. But I've always looked up to Maria Teresa Hincapie, a performer from my own country, Colombia. Her conceptual artworks are very confronting and special to me.
  • What are the specific qualities or skills required to succeed in this area?

I am a true believer that everyone is a creator and an artist on their own. It's a matter of finding it and embracing it. Forget the fear of making mistakes and come back to the primordial senses of curiosity and experimentation.

A lot of my work reflects this fearless approach and that's the #1 thing I aim to teach students. Success at the end of the day is finding satisfaction with who you are and what you do, these two alignments will take you through a path of a lot of growth and learning.
  • What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

Setting art as a priority will change how you see your projects in your life completely, consistency doesn't mean sacrificing, rather seeing everything with creative eyes have changed my practice for good because everything is nurturing my art, the more I live (spending time with friends, watching a movie, listening to music, meeting new people, travelling...) the more my art gets seasoned.

Artists do it because we love to, not because we have to. So make it always more and more enjoyable as a practice that helps you grow as a person. And remember what brought you here in the first place, it might not have been the nicest place or your best mental state, but it got you here. And it's a form of expressing and listening to yourself.
  • How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

Art gives me a certain kind of lucidity, to see and feel. For me art is a kind of control but also letting go... That is why I love abstract art so much, but more figurative art has its charm for me. It's seeing and contemplating, outside your own head.

I am very passionate about teaching this because it helps me broaden my vision and creativity, but even more so because that way I can extend those benefits that art brings to life to other people that need it as well.
  • What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

I love exhibiting a lot, my first exhibition was when I was 18 right after I finished high school and until now is something that brings me a lot of joy to think about. It makes me remember why I love showing my art so much, and at the end of the day art is connection and communication, so being able to pass on a message to someone else by artistic means has always been very special to me.
  • Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

I think all my students have their own unique ability or set of skills so it's very fascinating learning from them all the time. For example, kids don't stop surprising me with their infinite creativity, and with some adults it's impressive how characteristics from their personality come across in their artwork or their processes.

There's always space to be amazed by somebody's way of seeing the world.
  • Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

I think I'm one of the most passionate people doing what I do, and teaching here was a way of understanding what and why I love doing art and transmitting my own journey to people who are willing to give it a try.

I always try to be very open minded and flexible, not having expectations. That way I can accomodate to each of my students' guiding process, and realising that we all have a sparkle ready to be reached gives my sessions a lot of room for experimentation and authenticity.
