About Jagan
Hi, I'm Jagan, an enthusiastic Tutor currently studying Chemistry at Durham University. Having achieved 4 A*s at A level, I know what it takes to achieve at school, and I want to help you do the same. Exams are always challenging and so I will strive to share all the strategies and knowledge that has aided me – whether that be exam technique, study skills or specific subject understanding. I love Chemistry. For me it's the perfect combination of theory and practical application with countless interdisciplinary links. There's nothing more rewarding to me than seeing how theory links to academic and industrial research. Whilst I am now solely a Chemistry student, I did a great deal of Maths in my first year, so I am in a strong position to teach this. Of course, it is still very relevant to what I do now.

My long-standing passion for Science and Maths is what drew me to tutoring and I use this to fuel my lessons and engage my tutees. I aim to understand exactly where my tutee is struggling and tailor lessons accordingly. My tutoring philosophy revolves around three key steps: 1. Understanding. Make sure the content is understood well and there are no gaps. 2. Practise questions. These will hammer home step one and are the driving force for better understanding – after all they’re what you’ll be doing in the exam. 3. Analysis. We won’t always get questions right, but understanding what went wrong is crucial for growth. Was it a gap in our knowledge that we can revisit? Or factual recall that we can make flashcards for? Maybe we didn’t understand the question and can improve our exam technique. Speaking of which, exam technique is imperative to achieving top grades. Having sat many exams, I can help with this and will prioritise building these skills with tutees.
