About Stas
I am an outgoing and motivated undergraduate student, going into my second year reading English Literature and French at the University of Bristol. I am a published poet and recipient of several literary prizes and have experience in student mentorship. I am looking to bring my engaging and easygoing teaching style to help students who may not be as enthusiastic about literature as I am :)
Experience/qualifications:
-Achieved grade 9 at GCSE (Lit & Lang) and A* at A-Level for English Literature.
-Currently averaging a 1st at the University of Bristol.
-5 years experience in student mentorship and musical instruction as Drum Major for Mill Hill CCF.
-Ran several poetry/creative writing workshops for students in Years 9-11 whilst in Sixth Form.
-Ran a paid service writing/editing Personal Statements and English A-Level coursework whilst in Sixth Form.
-Foyle Young Poet, winner of several competitions and published in poetry journals.
-Winner of the Tanika Gupta Essay prize.
-Obtained scholarships in English and French at Mill Hill School.
-Awarded The Old Millhillians Junior & Senior Literary Prizes for contribution to English.
I have an understanding of neurodiversity in young people and how this can impact their learning. I can tailor my teaching for students with ADHD/Autism, and would be happy to discuss this further.
Please note: I am only available in London over the Summer/Christmas/Easter holidays, as I will be in Bristol during the semester. I am able to provide online lessons at a reduced rate after a few in-person sessions.

My lessons target students preparing for their GCSEs (Years 9-11) at any level. Sessions will last 1-2 hours, in-person, with availability any time Mon-Fri (afternoons preferred).
As well as identifying difficulties, I am eager to relate to the student's interests to increase their motivation and enjoyment of English. This would consist of exercises applying the transferrable skills of literary analysis, such as looking at how films create meaning through symbolism and using song lyrics to foster an understanding of poetic techniques.
First free session will include:
-Getting to know the student, and discussing strengths and interests.
-Identifying areas of difficulty to tailor teaching to each student.
-Setting smaller goals to work towards over the year.
-Collecting information on set texts/syllabus.
Lessons will focus on:
-Working with students on essay planning, writing, editing, and proofreading.
-Writing skills such as phrasing, clarity, spelling, and grammar.
-Analysing themes, language, and structure for key texts, looking at how to tackle more abstract ideas and imagery in poetry.
-Developing exam techniques and maximising efficiency: how to approach a question, time management, recall techniques.
-Sharing online/physical resources for exam prep and class progression.
