About Arabella

I am an undergraduate History student at a prestigious London university, avid for all things literary and historical. Learning is a genuine passion of mine, and I intend to spread this enthusiasm to all of my students. I am offering tutoring to GCSE/A-Level students (ages 11-18).

I have thorough knowledge of:
1. AQA History specification (GCSE)
2. Edexcel History specification (GCSE)
3. AQA History specification (A-Level)
4. AQA English Literature specification (A-Level)

(However, I am willing to learn any topics within these exam board specifications which I did not study myself.)

EDUCATION:
I am currently an undergraduate at UCL studying History.

I achieved 7-9s at GCSE and A*A*A*A at A-Level. I believe that this is a concrete reflection of my grasp of the knowledge required for the subjects I am offering.

EXPERIENCE:
I have tutored through my A-Level institution, offering weekly sessions for Soviet History and British History students in need of a boost to their learning. This involved using visual demonstrations of historical timelines, writing essay paragraphs under supervision with constant feedback, and acting as a point of support when they were struggling to grasp content or arguments by historians. Taking Economics at A-Level also provided me with a strong statistical foundation for analysing historical events and numerical fluctuations over time, enabling me to teach content more comprehensively and holistically.

As for English Literature, my essays were used numerous times for my institutions resource page. I achieved almost full marks across all 3 A-Level papers, one of the highest marks in my cohort. I have been in numerous poetry competitions with one of my creative pieces being published. I have taken language courses such as the 68th Polunicum Polish Language Course to continue my engagement with literature and through this I have developed a better understanding of language comprehension and literary interpretations. These are key skills I will teach my students.

TEACHING STYLE:
My teaching style varies depending on the subject I am tutoring in, and the skills, interests and learning style of my student. Through previous tutoring jobs, I have realised that lessons must be tailored to the student; this is why I use a mixture of interactive, guided and lecture-style methods to teach English Literature and History.

A typical lesson lasts 1 hour. It is usually split into:
- 10 minutes homework feedback
- 15 minutes content comprehension of that week's school topic
- 20 minutes essay planning/writing
- 5 minutes feedback on essay/ essay plan
- 10 minutes to cover any skills or content student is unsure of. I always ensure that my students have a time to guide the lesson in the direction they wish so that we can solve any questions or concerns about content, skills or the exams, together.

If you have any questions, please email me and I will respond as soon as possible.

Thank you.
