i am an undergrad student studying politics and international relations at the university of melbourne! i actually have dyslexia so i understand and know how to teach kids with learning disabilities. maths has always been one of my strongest subjects in school.

i would make sure that the student understands the concepts by practicing questions. i will probably conduct a mini test for each of the concepts taught, just to make sure the student understands the concept properly before i go on to the next concept.
