About Nico
Hello, my name is Nico, I am a current undergraduate studying Mathematics. I am from the United States where I pursued the International Baccalaureate curriculum in secondary school. As part of secondary school I tutored for two years in my school's writing center and as the head tutor of Latin grammar. During that time, I found I very much enjoyed working with other students one-on-one. Mathematics is the subject I am most passionate about, and I hope to bring that passion to others. I take a student-centric approach, first focusing on where the student identifies their own deficiencies based on where they struggle in their own work. Through that, I work to strengthen skills and improve understanding in that particular area and also areas that I identify where lack of understanding may be contributing.
In the first session, it is important to first establish A) The curriculum and content the student is working with, and B) The student's baseline understanding and areas of strength and weakness.
From there, our sessions progress weekly based on the challenges the student encounters in class that week and also carrying over material from previous weeks to ensure skills are thoroughly learned.
I typically work through example problems with the student, have them try problems on their own, and where helpful give conceptual explanations. I will also provide material for the students to practice and study.
I graduated with the highest possible marks from the IB Higher Level Mathematics curriculum, as well as scoring the highest possible mark in the Advanced Placement Statistics class. I tutored for two years in my last two years of secondary school.
Lessons are typically 1-1.5 hours once a week or more frequently depending on the student's preference. I work with students of all ages through secondary school.
