About Thomas
There are several reasons why I believe I am the best choice for your child. As a graduate of the University of Sheffield in Genetics and Microbiology my understanding of science taught in schools is strong, especially as I took Physics, Chemistry and Biology at A level. This deeper knowledge gives me an edge when tutoring as I will be able to give the information and subject matter more context. There are many times in science lessons where the information is given and that's that, translation makes proteins from RNA for example, and the wider use of this information is lost. Which then leads to an obvious well why should I learn it from many pupils. This is a barrier I can help to overcome pulling on my seller knowledge.
Furthermore science loves jargon, and as someone diagnosed with dyslexia I have developed my own methods for learning and dealing with jargon. Another one of the key blockers to a child's engagement in science is this reliance on what feels like a thick big of jargon. I feel I am especially skilled at cutting through the jargon and explaining everything as simply as possible then building in the jargon as a natural part of the scentence eventually leading to model answers
Finally I am someone who is very patient. Not everything comes quickly and especially withing science and maths, this is often the first example of abstract thinking many pupils go through. As someone who struggled with this I am well equipped to take as long as is necessary to thoroughly teach the subject matter to a satisfactory standard.
Overall I hope to be able to cut through the complexity and distill science into its core ideas. Through this I will also aim to instill the same passion and wonder for science as I have acquired over the years of studying it.
