About Joshua
I hold an MLitt in Classics and Ancient History from the University of St Andrews and a B.A. in History from Roanoke College, where I graduated magna cum laude. I currently work as a research and editorial intern at a Washington, DC think tank.
Writing has been central to all of my academic and professional work, and I believe it's a skill anyone can build with the right guidance. I help students organize their ideas, strengthen their arguments, and write with clarity and confidence.

My approach
Strong writing starts with a clear plan. I help students structure and outline their ideas before drafting, then we revise their work together to sharpen arguments and improve flow. For grammar, I focus on the student's own writing. We identify recurring errors, talk through why they happen, and practice fixing them so the lessons carry over to future assignments.
A typical lesson
We will begin each lesson by reviewing the previous session. Then we can work on a current assignment or piece of writing, focusing on structure, argument, and grammar, and answering questions as they arise.
What sets me apart
Years of academic research and editorial work have taught me what makes writing clear and persuasive, and I enjoy helping students find confidence in their own voice.
