About Kirsty
I’m Kirsty, an English Literature tutor with two Master’s degrees from the University of Edinburgh: an MA in History and a Postgraduate MTh in Religion and Literature. My academic background has given me strong expertise in literary analysis, critical thinking and academic writing, which I bring into every lesson. I’m passionate about literature because it develops analytical thinking, creativity and communication skills that are valuable far beyond exams.
I specialise in helping students gain confidence, clarity and control in their writing. My lessons focus on understanding texts, approaching questions strategically, planning essays and constructing clear, persuasive arguments, particularly in exam and coursework settings. I take pride in creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and building genuine understanding.
I aim to make English Literature feel clear, manageable and engaging, helping students approach their studies with confidence and control. Whether improving grades, strengthening essay-writing skills, or building exam confidence, I tailor every lesson to the individual student’s needs and goals.

My tutoring approach is clear, structured and supportive, with a strong focus on exam success and long-term understanding. Rather than simply telling students what to write, I teach them how to analyse texts, respond to questions and meet assessment objectives effectively.
Lessons typically include:
- Close reading and detailed analysis of set texts
- Breaking down exam questions and assessment objectives
- Planning strong, high-level essay responses
- Using quotations accurately and effectively
- Developing clear, well-supported arguments
- Effective revision techniques
I adapt each lesson to the individual student’s needs. This may involve breaking essays down step by step, practising exam-style questions together or building confidence through revision and timed practice. I use official specifications, mark schemes and past paper questions so students clearly understand what examiners are looking for and how to easily access higher marks.
Lessons are usually 60 minutes, though this can be adjusted if needed. Sessions are calm, focused and encouraging, with clear aims and visible progress each lesson.
My lessons are suitable for GCSE and A-Level English Literature students (typically aged 14–18), including those looking to improve grades, strengthen essay-writing skills or build confidence in exams.
My aim is to make English Literature feel clear, manageable and engaging (and enjoyable!) - and to help students approach their studies with confidence and control.
