About Rūta
Hi, I'm Ruta, an award-winning designer, researcher, and educator based in Edinburgh. I graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Edinburgh and will soon begin a Master's degree at Edinburgh College of Art. My work focuses on sustainable design, materials innovation, and creative research, combining design with science, sustainability, and emerging material practices.
I have been recognised through a number of awards and funding opportunities for my creative practice and research. I have also delivered lectures, presentations, and workshops nationally and internationally, sharing my work with diverse audiences across academic, professional, and public settings.
Alongside my professional practice, I am passionate about supporting others in developing their creativity, confidence, and skills. I regularly teach sustainable textile design at Edinburgh College of Art, delivering courses and workshops for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. My teaching style is friendly, encouraging, and tailored to each student's goals and interests. Whether you are building a portfolio, preparing for further study, developing a creative project, or simply looking to learn something new, I aim to create a supportive environment where you can experiment, grow, and enjoy the learning process.

I offer support in sustainable textile design, creative practice, biomaterials, visual research, portfolio development, and university applications. Whether you are a beginner exploring creative processes or a student preparing for higher education, I provide encouraging and personalised guidance. Lessons combine practical making, critical thinking, and creative experimentation, helping students build confidence, develop technical skills, and strengthen their individual creative voice.
